Il Verri, a magazine of literature and aesthetics created by Luciano Anceschi in Milan in 1956, devoted two issues of its seventh series to Pound on the occasion of the centenary of his birth, Issue 11 is mostly devoted to creative texts by Pound, Basil Bunting, Donald Davie, Guy Davenport, Denise Levertov, Girolamo Mancuso. “Ezra Pound, Witness and Poet”: Merlino actualizes Pound’s life and thought into an “exemplary life,” focussing on coherence, which stems from internal freedom, and is (in Merlino’s opinion) the foundational virtue of man.

“Between Pound and the Novissimi ”: This book brings together the first chapter of La poetica di Pound [Pound’s Poetics] (1949-1950), which had already appeared in Poetica americana e altri studi di poetica (first published in 1953), and “Orizzonti della poesia” [Horizons of Poetry] (first published in 1962, in Il Verri). The Novissimi are five leftist experimental poets associated with Il Verri, who claimed Pound as a major influence, and became established in the 1960s as the principal exponents of the Italian “Neo-Avantgarde.”
